In precision manufacturing, there is no room for "close enough." The team at Advanced Machine Technologies, Inc. knows this better than anyone,
every micron matters. So, when it came to their digital assets, "cloud-only" simply didn’t feel precise or secure enough for their long-term needs.
While cloud storage is fantastic for collaboration, it lacks one thing: physical sovereignty. Recently, we helped them solve a critical concern: How do we ensure we own a physical copy of our data that works even if the internet doesn't?
The Challenge: The "Cloud-Only" Anxiety
The client was utilizing a robust cloud ecosystem, but they felt a growing vulnerability. They didn't have a way to pull their entire project history into a physical format that could be stored in a safe or taken off-site. They needed a bridge between the digital ether and a tangible, encrypted backup.
The Engineering: A Custom "Sync-and-Secure" Hub
Rather than buying a generic off-the-shelf solution that wouldn't quite fit their workflow, we built a custom hardware and software stack designed for high-speed reliability.
- The On-Site Hub: We deployed a small-form-factor NUC (Next Unit of Computing) equipped with a massive, high-performance M.2 SSD. This serves as a dedicated "mirror" of their entire cloud directory, keeping every file synced locally in real-time.
- Encrypted Portability: We provisioned high-capacity external drives for their nightly rotation. To ensure the data is useless to anyone but the client, we utilized BitLocker encryption. If a drive is lost or stolen during transit to the safe, the data remains a digital fortress.
- The Automation Engine: Using a custom-coded PowerShell script and Robocopy, we automated the entire process through Task Scheduler. Every night, the system validates the drive, mirrors the data, and ensures the backup is identical to the cloud—no human intervention required.
The Result: Data Sovereignty
Now, the leadership at Advanced Machine Technologies, Inc. has the best of both worlds. They have the modern agility of the cloud for their daily operations, but every evening, they can hold their entire company’s intellectual property in the palm of their hand, encrypted and ready for the safe.
We believe IT should adapt to the client's peace of mind, not the other way around. By combining standard tools with custom engineering, we gave this precision-focused team exactly what they needed: a safety net they can actually touch.
